I remember growing up playing the formula one games on my friend’s PS3, the Monaco circuit would be our favourite with damage on. That would be one difficult race to win. Well since that time I have always loved the official formula one games.

I write this post as the latest game in the series ‘F1 2011’ is launched and yes it includes the new Buddh International circuit at Noida. Its coded by codemasters and is marketed by Zapak in India.

The game has a number of new gameplay options, one of which is the much awaited co-op mode, you and your friend compete as formula one racing partners for a team. I have just got my review copy and cant wait to play it out. If you are looking for features, they are all listed here. You can also view the release trailer here, the graphics look simply awesome ! Am awaiting my Xbox copy to really see the HD graphics

The game is available on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

F1 2011™ is the sequel to the BAFTA winning FORMULA ONE™ videogame from Codemasters®, the developer and publisher of award-winning racing games. Developed under Codemasters’ exclusive worldwide agreement with Formula One World Championship Limited, F1 2011 will come complete with all the official drivers, teams and circuits featuring in the 2011 FIA FORMULA ONE World Championship™. Zapak Games, the licensing & merchandising arm of Zapak Digital Entertainment Ltd. will distribute the title in India.

Developed using Codemasters’ EGO Game Technology Platform F1 2011 will deliver an unrivalled FORMULA ONE experience that puts players into the heart of the world’s most exciting sport, powered by cutting edge graphics, advanced physics systems and integrated network play.

· Go Compete! F1 2011 builds extensively on the multiplayer options from F1 2010. Split-screen racing is included for the first time in a high-definition FORMULA ONE title. Competitive online racing is extended with 16 players going head-to-head in GRAND PRIX™ with up to 8 AI drivers added to simulate the full grid of 24 drivers. An innovative new co-op Championship enables two players to lead their favourite FORMULA ONE team to Driver and Constructor glory across the course of a FORMULA ONE season. These enhancements are complimented by additional quick fire modes including Time Attack.

· New Circuits for 2011. Two stunning new additions to the race calendar extend the number of circuits to feature in F1 2011 to 19. Players will be able to debut ahead of the drivers on the Buddh International Circuit, the home of the first FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX OF INDIA and players will be able to test themselves on the iconic Nürburging circuit for the first time in High Definition, as this legendary track returns for the 2011 season.

· Be the driver, live the life. From the paddock to the track, F1 2011 takes players closer to the experience of being a FORMULA ONE driver than ever before. A new Parc Ferme area, an expanded and revamped Paddock, new Pit Lane, celebration and reaction cinematics and an enhanced media interaction system fully immerse players in the glamour, pressure and excitement of being a FORMULA ONE driver. Players progress from rookie to FIA FORMULA ONE DRIVERS’ WORLD CHAMPION in an extensive career mode where gamers fight to become priority driver and shape the development of the car by performing well in races and earning performance upgrades.

· All the cars, all the stars. Fully licensed, F1 2011 features all the drivers set to contest the 2011 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, including Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button. All 2011 teams are represented including Ferrari, Red Rull Racing, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes and Lotus Renault GP in their iconic black and gold livery.

· KERS, DRS and more! F1 2011 includes all the new rule changes set to make this year’s season the most exciting yet. F1 2011 debuts DRS (Drag Reduction System) – the new system which enables drivers to adjust the rear wing on the car to give a boost of up to 10km. KERS also returns, giving players an extra 80BHP for up to 6.67 seconds, enabling drivers to blast past rivals. Combined, these systems encourage close wheel-to-wheel racing with new options for both defence and attack. This season’s new Pirelli tyres are faithfully simulated in the game, and if players push their car too hard they may experience a range of authentic new damage failures.

· Full Day / Night Racing. The 2011 FORMULA 1 ETHIAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX comes alive with a full day/ night transition which recreates the special atmosphere at this unique track. Every one of the existing circuits from the 2010 roster has been given a complete visual overhaul. New atmospheric effects, including dynamic clouds, compliment a weather system which features an advanced rain model that affects on-track grip. Powered by the EGO Game Technology Platforms, F1 2011 pushes forward the graphical standard of what can be achieved in a racing game.

· The world’s greatest cars, the most exciting racing. Building on the heritage of producing award-winning racing games for over a decade, Codemasters is uniquely placed to realise the spectacle and exhilaration of racing 200MPH+ FORMULA ONE cars for all fans.
The World Motor Sport council voted to get the Bahrain Grand Prix re-instated in a move that was praised by Bahrain’s prince but met with sharp criticism elsewhere.

The Bahrain Grand Prix now pushes the Inaugural Indian Grand Prix to the end of the season. The Indian Grand Prix will now be held in December andd Bahrain Grand Prix takes the 30th October slot.

The Bahrain Crown prince praised the move :

“Having the race back in Bahrain has, indeed, significantly unified the people of Bahrain in this period,” Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa said

“Their love for their country and caring for its interest has motivated them in supporting efforts to bring the race back to Bahrain this year,” he added.

This is ofcourse in stark contrast to what the rest of the world feels. We had recently reported on the democracy protests in Bahrain, what we didn’t report (as we aren’t a political blog) was how the protests were crushed and citizens detained in the kingdom state. Its no wonder that the decision to reinstate the Bahrain Grand Prix has people up in anger all over the Internet.

Former FIA president Max Mosely was vocal of his criticism and hoped that the decision to reinstate the Bahrain Grand Prix would be reversed. In a piece for the Daily Telegraph, he wrote :

“Surely the line has to be drawn when a sporting event is not mere entertainment in a less-than-perfect country, but is being used by an oppressive regime to camouflage its actions” Max Mosley wrote.

“If a sport accepts this role, it becomes a tool of government. If Formula 1 allows itself to be used in this way in Bahrain, it will share the regime’s guilt as surely as if it went out and helped brutalize unarmed protesters.”

“Having carried out these horrific acts, the Bahrain government wants to clean up its image. That’s where the grand prix comes in. By running the race they hope to show the world the troubles were just a small, temporary difficulty and everything is now back to normal.

“By agreeing to race there, Formula 1 becomes complicit in what has happened. It becomes one of the Bahrain government’s instruments of repression. The decision to hold the race is a mistake which will not be forgotten and, if not reversed, will eventually cost Formula 1 dear.”

Red Bull driver Mark Webber was also critical and till now one of the only f1 drivers who seems to have come out openly against the decision, He wrote on his website :

“In my personal opinion, the sport should have taken a much firmer stance earlier this year rather than constantly delaying its decision in the hope of being able to reschedule it in 2011.

“It would have sent a very clear message about F1′s position on something as fundamental as human rights and how it deals with moral issues.”

“Like it or not, F1 and sport in general isn’t above having a social responsibility and conscience. I hope F1 is able to return to Bahrain eventually but now isn’t the right time.

“As a competitor I do not feel at all comfortable going there to compete in an event when, despite reassurances to the contrary, it seems inevitable that it will cause more tension for the people of that country.

“I don’t understand why my sport wishes to place itself in a position to be a catalyst for that.”

For better or for worse, formula one is motivated by money, of course we overlook that 30% of the McLaren formula one team is owned by the Kingdom of Bahrain.

However its (commercial interests) working in the other way also, countless petitions have been started to pressurize Red Bull and other consumer dependent companies to pull out of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

FOTA is another key player in this mess, however FOTA’s current president is from the McLaren team who are owned partially by Kingdom of Bahrain, so expectations are low from them.

At this point, it does not seem like we have seen the last of this matter. Its likely to snowball into something huge in the coming days.

The Bahrain Grand Prix was meant to be the grand opening F1 race to the 2011 formula one season. However pro democracy protests (much less publicized than those of Egypt) seem to be set to derail the 2011 season opener.

The unrest finally reached F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, Ecclestone has put the ball in the Crown Prince’s court saying that his decision would be final on the Bahrain Grand Prix

‘I haven’t spoken to the Crown Prince this morning so I don’t know what’s happened there. If anybody’s going to sort it out he’s the guy to do it. ‘He would decide whether or not it’s safe for us to be there.

‘Let’s wait until Tuesday and see if this one’s going to take place before we decide what to do. Maybe we could postpone Bahrain or run it later in the year.’

Meanwhile noises became more and more clear that all the F1 teams are in unison against the Bahrain Grand Prix going through. Apparent safety concerns have made the teams wary of coming to Bahrain. Mercedes’s Norbert Haug was quoted as saying: ‘The safety of our employees is more important than anything else’

Mark Webber was more vocal about the situation commenting on the loss of lives in the protests :

“When you hear of people losing their lives, this is a tragedy.

“It’s probably not the best time to go there for a sporting event. They have bigger things, bigger priorities.” Mark Webber said

Brawn GP seem all set to take this season in record number of races. Their domination is unchallenged and quite frankly they might make the season boring. The race was won on great strategy , earlier on Saturday Sebastien Vettel had scored pole position but couldnt however win the race. He came second while the Toyota of Jarno Trulli was third.

Expectedly Jenson Button was happy on winning the race :

JENSON BUTTON
“It was a great race today and I’m so happy to have seen the chequered flag without a safety car or red light in front of me To achieve my third victory of the season is amazing and we are going back to Europe with a strong lead in both championships. I couldn’t wish for anything more. It has been a tough weekend for the team which makes this win even more rewarding as we didn’t have the pace that we expected. I was really happy with my first lap. I knew that I had to overtake Sebastian quickly and got him round the outside on turn one. I had a couple of attempts at Lewis round the first lap and almost got him at the last corner. I knew that he would pull away from me on the straight so I dropped in behind and used the tow to overtake him at turn one. It wasn’t easy from there but getting up to third on the first lap was crucial for me. Our thanks to Mercedes-Benz this weekend who have not only provided us with a powerful engine but have integrated so well with our team. You need a close-knit unit to succeed in Formula One and that is what we have at this team.”

ROSS BRAWN
“A fantastic performance today from Jenson and all credit is due to him for an outstanding opening lap which made today’s victory possible. We have had a challenging weekend in dealing with the extreme temperature conditions which was made more difficult by our lack of hot weather testing prior to the season. I am very proud of the way that the team here in Bahrain has worked together to overcome the issues that we faced and how they performed in the race today. Our particular thanks this weekend are due to our engine partner Mercedes-Benz and we are delighted to have achieved our third victory of the season with them here today. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the team at the factory in Brackley who have been working very hard on our upgrade package. After a demanding but successful start of the season, we are all looking forward to returning home and the opportunity for the team to celebrate together before our focus turns to the start of the European season in Spain in two weeks.”

Sorry for the slow updates, but its exam season again for me so formula one time is sort of luxury time.

Ferrari’s Felipe Massa silenced a lot of voices today at Bahrain by running an almost perfect race to clinch the 2008 Bahrain Grand Prix. Teammate Kimi Raikkonen was second. Lewis Hamilton finished outside the points and lost the championship lead due to it. The Pole on pole Robert Kubica was third for the BMW team.

Nick Heidfeld claimed a calm fourth place behind teammate Robert Kubica. Young Heikki Kovalainen got McLaren F1 fifth place.

An interesting point in the race was when Lewis Hamilton ran into the back of Fernando Alonso, it made him pit and eventually this resulted in him being out of points. Some people say Fernando brake tested Lewis Hamilton, but i really dont think it was anything like that. I have seen the videos again and again and they look highly inconclusive. Later on Lewis Hamilton was apologetic to the McLaren F1 team :

“I am really disappointed and feel like I had let the team down”

“You need to pick up the pieces and then deliver points. I didn’t do that. The collision with Renault’s Fernando Alonso cost the race.” Lewis Hamilton said

Meanwhile my best moment of the race was when Force India formula one’s Giancarlo Fisichella held back Lewis Hamilton for 3 laps, closing the door on Lewis countless times. The Force India car does show a lot of promise and hopefully they will be getting some points this season. Giancarlo eventually finished 12th. The final classification was :

This is a race he will remember forever, the Bahrain Grand Prix 2008. Robert Kubica got his first ever pole position breaking Ferrari’s hopes of dominance in the middle eastern circuit. Felipe Massa was second while Lewis Hamilton came third. Massa’s Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen could only manage fourth. It was an impressive fightback from the young Brit Lewis Hamilton who had crashed severely on Friday. His car was completely totalled and the McLaren engineers did a fine job of putting it back together.

Force India showed some guts on the track today but still couldnt qualify for the second qualifying session. Fisichella again clocked faster than Adrian Sutil by .3 of a second.

It promises to be a great race tomorrow with three teams fighting it out, but what has surprised me the most is Kubica’s dominance over teammate Nick Heidfeld who was drawing all the praise last year for being Mr.Consistent.

The qualifying positions were

1. Robert Kubica (Poland) BMW Sauber 1 min 33.096
2. Felipe Massa (Brazil) Ferrari 1:33.123
3. Lewis Hamilton (Britain) McLaren 1:33.292
4. Kimi Raikkonen (Finland) Ferrari 1:33.418
5. Heikki Kovalainen (Finland) McLaren 1:33.488
6. Nick Heidfeld (Germany) BMW Sauber 1:33.737
7. Jarno Trulli (Italy) Toyota 1:33.994
8. Nico Rosberg (Germany) Williams – Toyota 1:34.015
9. Jenson Button (Britain) Honda 1:35.057
10. Fernando Alonso (Spain) Renault 1:35.115
11. Mark Webber (Australia) RedBull – Renault 1:32.371
12. Rubens Barrichello (Brazil) Honda 1:32.508
13. Timo Glock (Germany) Toyota 1:32.528
14. Nelsinho Piquet (Brazil) Renault 1:32.790
15. Sebastien Bourdais (France) Toro Rosso – Ferrari 1:32.915
16. Kazuki Nakajima (Japan) Williams – Toyota 1:32.943
17. David Coulthard (Britain) RedBull – Renault 1:33.433
18. Giancarlo Fisichella (Italy) Force India – Ferrari 1:33.501
19.

McLaren have been moved back to the last of the garages in Bahrain behind tailenders Force India formula one. However we are seeing some allegations of this being a trick to get McLaren onto a better place in the pits in order to nullify the disadvantage to them posed by the penalty last year while the FIA insists its for satisfying the rule criterion. It seems that Bahrain had tried to get them middle garages. There are some conflicting reports on the intentions behind the action.

The Bahrain organisers meanwhile apologised to McLaren fans for depriving them of ‘team action’. As for me, i really have no clue what effect this will have on the race and the teams but prima facie it seems to assist McLaren. Instead of garages 15-18 McLaren shall now occupy garages 33-35 which seems to offer more advantage to teams.

“We understand that it is in line with the rules and regulations of the sport for McLaren, which scored no points in the 2007 constructors’ championship, to take the final set of garages,”

“However in Bahrain we do our utmost to ensure that fans of each team get to sit opposite their favourite team’s pit garages to see the action unfold. Sadly on this occasion we must apologise to McLaren fans and accept that this is force majeure.”

said Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, Chief Operating Officer at the BIC.

Ferrari’s Felipe Massa won the formula one Bahrain Grand Prix 2007, cleanly for a change.Sakhir was as hot and sandy as ever, but that couldnt deter Massa’s Ferrari. After being heavily criticised for being tricked by rookie Briton Lewis Hamilton in the last race (not to mention being made fun of), today it seemed that Felipe Massa was a man on a mission. He was careful not to commit mistakes, and held off Lewis Hamilton quite nicely near the dying stages of the race. Massa was delighted after the race

“The results in the first two races were not what I expected,” said the Ferrari Driver.

“Something was missing. But this time we put everything together. I’m really pleased.”

Kimi Raikkonen , scored a good third place, but he must have wanted to shut out Massa for good. Ferrari is known for favouritism and i dare say, 2-3 more races of Massa disaster and Kimi might even have become the no.1 driver of the Ferrari F1 Team.

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton finished in second place, this rookie will definitely go places. He now holds the record for the best formula one debut, being the first ever driver in formula one history to score three successive podium finishes. Lewis Hamilton was delighted after the race

“I think this weekend we have definitely closed the gap on Ferrari and I couldn’t ask for more,” he said.

“It is one more step for me and in Barcelona we will push again.

“Unfortunately I didn’t get as good as start as Felipe, he did very well on the first corner and I just had to make sure I stayed as close to him as possible.”

Teammate Fernando Alonso was fifth at the end of the race.

The Renault’s performance was lacklustre again, they failed to get a good finish, with Giancarlo Fisichella and Heiki Kovalainen getting 8th and 9th places respectively. The world champions team definitely needs to pull up their socks and do much better.

The surprise package was David Coulthard, starting from the last row on the grid, he made his way upto seventh place, but had to retire unfortunately due to a mechanical failure.

Briton Jenson Button and American Scott Speed’s campaign had ended on the very first lap after Speed clipped the back of Jenson’s Honda.

And here is a really nice photo of Kimi Raikkonen at the post race press confrence.

The driver’s championship is already up for grabs, the top three drivers are tied with the same points . Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen each has 22 points. Today’s race winner Felipe Massa follows with 17 points.

BMW’s excellent form continued, Nick Heidfeld outraced and outpaced Fernando Alonso to grab fourth place. Robert Kubice was sixth. BMW Sauber are now third in the constructor’s championship points table.

That familiar Marlboro was back on the Ferrari rear wings and so was the confidence. Felipe Massa once again got pole position, pipping Lewis Hamilton by a very small gap. Kimi Raikkonen snatched third place while Fernando Alonso of McLaren was fourth.

Lewis Hamilton, the rookie who conquered the world and who is now a household name in Britain, was really impressive and just almost got the pole position, missing by about 4/10th of a second. He will be going for a record three podium finishes for a rookie in his first three races.

Giancarlo Fisichella scored a seventh place for Renault, while teammate and rookie Heiki Kovalainen wasnt even able to qualify for the last session. Poor Heiki , his debut has been completely overshadowed by Lewis Hamilton.

Nick Heidfeld put in another good performance finishing in fifth place.

All is set for the Desert Grand Prix of Bahrain, so who is up to take the desert crown ?

The 2007 Bahrain Formula One Grand is the third round of the 2007 formula one season.
Most people think its going to be a Ferrari show, Malaysia was a bit unlucky for them and Kimi Raikkonen wasn’t happy with the engine there. But with Bahrain comes a new engine and a renewed hope of victory. Felipe Massa is what my friend calls a ‘disgrace’ to Ferrari (no comments) , but if you get tricked by rookies then you must rethink. Sometimes having your manager’s father as team principal should not be enough.

Kimi Raikkonen said “The engine compromises put us in a position where we did not want to be,”

“I always want to fight for the victory and the way I was forced to race was like playing a football game defending a goalless draw.

“But when we have our whole package working 100% we should be back to the same speed as we had in Melbourne.”

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton will look to make history by being the first driver to get podiums in his first three races. And the British media will again go into a frenzy. Poor Jenson Button the British media never frenzied for him like this. Fernando Alonso will want to continue his winning ways.
Toyota Racing however are not too optimistic, the track has been extremely cruel to Toyota and there is no reason why it would be otherwise.

Jarno Trulli: “At this year’s pre-season test at Sakhir we struggled too. So it’s never been our track but there is no particular reason why it should be hard for us. It’s an incredible venue with state-of-the-art facilities and it is not a difficult track from a driving perspective. It is hard on braking and there is always wind which brings dust and sand onto the track. Otherwise it is a very clean, smooth circuit with few bumps.”

Williams will be looking to carry forward their great Malaysian performance and make it a notch better. Alexander Wurz was 9th in Bahrain and would like to improve certainly. Nico Rosberg has been one disappointment after another and should really be kicked out.

Renault’s season start has been dismal, with Flavio Briatore often criticising his own drivers very publicly. If they want to win HUGE changes are needed.

And poor poor Honda, wasted millions of dollars on this new car and the old one just drives faster. Its obvious that their drivers must be running out of patience.
