McLaren faces flak for team orders

I couldnt write the race review as i had a practical exam on Monday, that too of Physics of Materials , which includes Semiconductors etc., lots of stuff to learn.

Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso

Anyway, i found the race yesterday, exceptionally boring. The McLarens were ahead of the others by a huge margin, the only two cars competing for the front were those of Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. But the shocker came when suddenly both cars went slower by two seconds. It was obvious that Lewis Hamilton had been told to lay off Fernando Alonso’s car whom he was pressurising a lot. Lewis expressed his sadness after the race.

“It is something I have to live with. I’ve number two on my car and I am the number two driver.” said Lewis Hamilton

I was told to take it easy, so there was no point pressuring him into a mistake, and then if he had made a mistake to crash into him, so it was best to finish one-two.

Soon enough damage control started at the McLaren camp with the team making statements about equality of drivers among other things, Lewis too it seems was ‘instructed’ not to raise the issue further.

My question is how is this any different from what Ferrari had done to Rubens Barrichello for which there was such a hue and cry. The fact was what you saw there was a mockery of racing and fake driving with both drivers being told not to push. People pay money to watch racing, not two drivers of same team in one and two positions pretending to race.

The McLaren Team have been fully cleared of any misconduct at Monaco by the FIA

Formula One Quotable Quotes I – Ayrton Senna

one comment

Ayrton Senna

A good collection of formula one’s most quotable quotes is with us, we release them two at a time. Sometimes interesting, sometimes dumb but always full of emotion, these quotes are from the late Ayrton Senna :

When a man holds you round the throat, I don’t think he has come to apologize.

Ayrton Senna (1960 – 1994)

Referring to Nigel Mansell after a collision in the 1987 Belgian F1 Grand Prix.

There is no magic in Formula One, people can only go a bit faster than you around the corners.

Ayrton Senna (1960 – 1994)

F1 racing surely misses the charming ways of Senna !
