Nico Hulkenberg and Rubens Barrichello for Williams F1 in 2010

Lets take a look at the Williams F1 team, they have changed both their drivers this season. They have gone in for the experienced + rookie combo (we know that doesnt always work out BTW). They have managed to rope in Rubens Barrichello from last season’s champions the Brawn GP team plus the new German in town Nico Hulkenberg who recently topped the GP2 driver’s championship.

Apart from GP2 , he has some impressive performances in Formula 3 and A1GP. Rubens Barrichello will surely have his plate full.

They would be using the Cosworth engine and do retain AT&T as their main sponsors.

Lets go to Brazil for the formula one driver championship finale !

First a video from the McLaren team and Vodafone :

Dusk Til Dawn – The race is on to get Lewis and Heikki’s cars to the Italian Grand Prix in Monza -at a maximum speed of just 56 mph – aboard the team’s Mercedes Transporter, driven by Hugh and Roy.

I was reading Ed Gorman’s blog where he was mentioning the same thing about the finale at Brazil, how last year Lewis Hamilton sealed his championship at the formula one Brazilian Grand Prix. this year may not be much different, Jenson Button should look to seal the deal at Brazil and not Abu Dhabi.

Rubens and Vettel wont make it easy though, they can smell the blood and would surely want to dent Jenson Button’s maiden title hopes. But the bigger question is even if he wins the title, people will remember it as the season where complicated ever changing rules decided the championship and not the cars or the drivers. Brawn GP were no where on the scene before the start of the season, so much so that Honda had dropped it as a loss making division 😛 , and for those who might have blinked twice during the start of the 2009 formula one season would have found themselves really confused as to who these Brawn GP people are and why are they dominating.

Coming back to the point then, Jenson Button is pretty comfortable with his 85 points, Barrichello lags at 71 and Vettel is further behind at 69. So unless Button messes up big time, he should see the title in his hands.

Onto other news then, Felipe Massa is back testing in Italy , however Ferrari have ruled out that he will drive in a race again in 2009, but its good news nonetheless.

Anyway, back to studying for me, enjoy the great sport that F1 is 😀

Jenson Button happy for teammate Rubens Barrichello

Rubens Barrichello Valencia Grand Prix 2009

Rubens Barrichello on Sunday ended a 5 year drought by winning the Valencia Grand Prix capitalising on bad McLaren pitstops and the car supremacy that Brawn GP has possessed this season.

Although Barrichello cut his teammate’s lead by a huge margin, Jenson Button who finished seventh in the race was upbeat about his teammate. Rubens was able to cut 8 points in this one race. Jenson Button was quoted as saying :

“It ended up as a bit of struggle for me, but I take more positives than negatives from this one – and it is great to see Rubens winning. The team have asked me to push harder now if I want to win the title”

“Yeah, it is very unusual for your team-mate to take eight points out of you in one race. Rubens did a fantastic job.

“He has been very quick all weekend and I have struggled to be on his pace. But in qualifying I screwed up, which cost me time. I double shifted out of Turn Five and hopefully we can rectify that problem as I did it in the race as well.

“Starting fifth, I thought we could have a good race, but Vettel came across at the start and if I had stayed flat I would have ripped my front wing off. So, being back in the pack – although I know fifth is not back in the pack – it was a bit crazy.

“In a way, I got two points and I was lucky to get those points. I was down in ninth at one point, behind Webber, and with Sebastian up in fifth.

“But in the end neither of them got points and I got two points, so it is a positive day — but it is also a day where our car was strong and, as my team-mate proved, there were a lot more points on offer and it just didn’t go my way.”
