McLaren faces flak for team orders

I couldnt write the race review as i had a practical exam on Monday, that too of Physics of Materials , which includes Semiconductors etc., lots of stuff to learn.

Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso

Anyway, i found the race yesterday, exceptionally boring. The McLarens were ahead of the others by a huge margin, the only two cars competing for the front were those of Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. But the shocker came when suddenly both cars went slower by two seconds. It was obvious that Lewis Hamilton had been told to lay off Fernando Alonso’s car whom he was pressurising a lot. Lewis expressed his sadness after the race.

“It is something I have to live with. I’ve number two on my car and I am the number two driver.” said Lewis Hamilton

I was told to take it easy, so there was no point pressuring him into a mistake, and then if he had made a mistake to crash into him, so it was best to finish one-two.

Soon enough damage control started at the McLaren camp with the team making statements about equality of drivers among other things, Lewis too it seems was ‘instructed’ not to raise the issue further.

My question is how is this any different from what Ferrari had done to Rubens Barrichello for which there was such a hue and cry. The fact was what you saw there was a mockery of racing and fake driving with both drivers being told not to push. People pay money to watch racing, not two drivers of same team in one and two positions pretending to race.
UPDATE?

The McLaren Team have been fully cleared of any misconduct at Monaco by the FIA

I think McLaren actually did Lewis a huge favour by instructing him to back off (well, they told both drivers to back off).

If they let him keep going the way he was he probably would have ended up in the wall, ruining his WC chances. Nothing against Lewis. Alonso was just hooked up really well while Lewis looked ragged.

Lewis will have his day soon you can be sure of that :)

I don’t feel sorry for him at all………Ron Dennis’ maturity kept the novice rookie in check, the kid’s driving was ragged and passing Alonso would have gained the TEAM nothing.
Hamilton “had never lost at Monaco” and he likely wanted to kept the slogan going, but that was in the training leagues,
he is now an EMPLOYEE of McLaren and has to respect his employment obligatons. PERIOD!

    I agree Number 38,

But while it was good of him to be a team player and put aside his pride, what does that say of Mclaren’s sportsmanship? Sucks to watch leaders abuse their position, we watch for skill & speed; we want limits pushed!
