David Coulthard’s action shameful : Pat Symonds
Pat Symonds was an angry man at Monaco. He slammed Coulthard and stated that David didnt even adhere to his own principles when he did not let Heiki pass him during qualifying.
“It is a shame that the oldest driver in the field, and the one who is most voluble about problems with traffic, was unable to adhere to his own principles,” Renault’s Pat Symonds said on behalf of his team
Kovalainen also criticised David Coulthard for not giving him way on his hot lap.
“On my final run I thought I could have made it into the top 10,” Kovalainen said.
“I came around the first corner on my flying lap and saw Coulthard’s Red Bull coming out of the pits and thought he would move over after Casino — or into the tunnel at the latest.
“But he just stayed there all the way round and ruined the lap,”
“To say the least, I was very surprised to see that from the most experienced driver in the field.”
David on the other hand blamed Red Bull for not telling him about Heiki Kovalainen’s hot lap and further expressed his regret. He claimed that the action was not deliberate.

Virtually ALL F1 fans , FIA stewards, ALL of the media and most ‘talking heads’ seem to overlook the fact that every team and every car has 15 minutes to produce their best lap. Their best lap is to be run under ‘traffic’ conditions, no one is excluded during any 15 minute session. Those who choose to squander 12 minutes and then gamble everything on the last lap are FOOLS! EVERYONE is out there for the last lap! Renault/Kova gambled and lost, no sympathey from me. Another consideration……..had Alonso ‘ruined’ Albers hot lap (in an earlier session) this wouldn’t be an issue.
