2007 Malaysian Grand Prix : Race Review and Results
McLaren of Fernando Alonso before start of race

A poor start by the Ferraris of Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa was all that was needed by Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton to clinch their first McLaren 1-2 of the season.

Fernando Alonso to his Pit crew after winning :

“It’s been a tough week but thank you very much. We all did it.”

Felipe Massa thoroughly blew his chances when he went wide on the fifth lap( i think) while pursuing Lewis Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton drove pretty good and is look set to prove that Australia was not a fluke. He was able to hold off a charging Kimi Raikkonen during the dying moments of the race. And the hype around this young lad is just destined to grow more and more.

But must say Ferrari must be really disappointed with this debacle, after the excellent qualifying session yesterday, this was the last thing they needed. Lewis was driving much better than Massa and outraced him. The experienced Massa was showing nerves while the rookie Lewis Hamilton looked as cool as a cucumber. Lewis Hamilton also clocked the fastest lap of the race.
Nick Heidfeld in his BMW Sauber scored fourth place ahead of Felipe Massa. Nico Rosberg was unlucky with his Williams retiring on lap 44 with smoke pouring from his Engine, he was in 8th place when this happened. Williams surely have to sort their reliability issues.

Quote of the Day – Lewis Hamilton says he tricked Felipe Massa

“Felipe had a couple of moves but fortunately I was able to trick him into outbraking himself and get my car stopped,”

McLaren’s Rookie Lewis Hamilton.

Tricked Felipe Massa eh ?, With f1 drivers having egos as big as their engines, i can already see Felipe fuming and wanting a piece of Lewis at Bahrain where we head to now for round three of the Formula One 2007 season. The Bahrain Grand Prix is on the 15th of April !

Hamilton not only DID trick Massa into making a mistake, but tricked him into making the same exact mistake two laps in a row on the same corner.

    Go McLaren!

Looks like Massa has now got some serious critics on his back, it will be nice to see if he can bounce back.

Rediscover Formula One | 3-2-? - Will Lewis Hamilton complete the reverse count

[...] This is definitely the question on everyone’s lips. When McLaren at the start of the season went in for a rookie, there were many critics including me,how can a top class team looking to regain form, hire a two time formula one world champion at one end and a rookie at the other. but Lewis Hamilton is most definitely the best thing to happen to the McLaren F1 team for a long time. He impressed many with his 3rd place in the 2007 Australian Grand Prix with all the media hype and glory, and then when he got 2nd place in Malaysia , people just went WILD. In the last 24 hours, the site has got 300 hits with people searching for some permutation or combination of rookie Lewis Hamilton. People love the fact that the young Brit speaks his mind, he went to the extent of claiming that he tricked Felipe Massa into making a mistake and later even ‘apologised’ for tricking Massa. This kind of young and raw talent is just what F1 needed. But can he make it 1st place at Bahrain, people say he can ! [...]

Massa lost hist stake during this race before the first corner. He should have accepted 2nd place and protected the inside line through the first right hander, and not swerve to left outside to get a better angle on the right hander to cut off Alonso. This way, he would have made it impossible to be passed by Hamilton and to find himself in 3rd position. If Schumi would have been there, he would have closed the door, for sure!
